The start of every new year is always a special and exciting time with lots of things to do, plans to make and goals to achieve. It was also an exciting time this new year to hear that Evernote were rekindling their podcast again after what seemed like forever since they last uploaded one.

I have recently started to download and listen to more and more podcasts lately so Evernote’s new podcast was a warm welcome.

Taking Note a podcast by Evernote is described by the iTunes Podcast store as being presented by the leader in note taking and productivity. Taking Note dives into the realms of personal and professional achievement, entrepreneurship and creative thinking. They will interview experts and trailblazers, uncovering great ideas and best practices to help organise your work and declutter your life.

Episode #1 featured Michael Hyatt of MichaelHyatt.com – talking about taking control of your goals in 2017. I have been following Michael Hyatt for a while now and as Michael is an Evernote power user I knew this would be worth listening to.

Crush It! Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion. by Gary Vaynerchuk (Harper Studio, 2009)

The title in itself is enough to make you stop and pick the book up. What grabbed my attention, besides the great big green CRUSH IT! title, was the sub-heading about Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion.

I had, for a long time, thought how great life would be if you could do something for the rest of your life that revolves around your passion. In reading the jacket cover, I bought the book.

Gary Vaynerchuk writes in a very conversational way, almost as if you are at a bar having a drink with him. This style of story telling really works.

Gary recounts his story and what worked for him when he turned his family wine business into a multi million dollar business with the aid of online and social media. From this, Gary developed his personal brand which is one of the main underlying themes of the book.

Gary’s advice?

Build your personal brand
Create good content
Choose your platform
Keep it real and authentic
Build your community

Perhaps the biggest lesson he shares is to Care. The checklist in appendix: a is one that you will want to learn, memorise, action, rinse and repeat…over and over again.

Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy (Baker Books, 2016)

One of the books I am currently reading is best seller from Michael Hyatt of MichaelHyatt.com and Daniel Harkavy, titled Living Forward.

While the title was enough to grab my attention, the sub title, “A proven plan to stop drifting and get the life you want” resonated with me as I had been giving this subject quite a lot of thought recently. I had to buy the book.

While I am only part way through the book it so far promises to guide me through a step by step process to understand:

our wants and needs
how to create a plan with clarity; and
how to implement what you have learned about yourself to make it happen

There is nothing worse than not being in control of your own life. Living Forward promises to help you acknowledge the drift in your life and to help you regain control and direction.
